Introducing the Maine Academy of Physician Associates
Posted about 1 month ago
MEAPA is Changing Our Name!!
Background:
Our Maine Delegates to the American Academy of Physician Associates House of Delegates, returned from Nashville last year with a request to align with AAPAs rebranding of the profession to "Physician Associates".
After discussing at our 2023 conference and polling members online and via email, the MEAPA Board of Directors voted to change our organizations name from the "Maine Association of Physician Assistants" to the "Maine Academy of Physician Associates".
Recent Developments:
MEAPA held two zoom town hall meetings to update membership for our rationale and timeline for this change. Organization title change was proposed in our recent bylaw update and was unanimously accepted by full membership vote! So, over the next few weeks you will see our logo and website changing to reflect the new name.
Future Plans:
This comes at a crucial time as our #1 2024-2025 ME legislative goal is to pass PA Title Change statewide. Stay tuned to hear how you can help us achieve this, because PAs do far more than just "assist" physicians!!
NOTE: You should not be using "Physician Associate" clinically until the Maine Legislature has passed it into law and the Boards of Licensure have made the necessary changes. Doing so prematurely puts you at risk for discipline/censure and would be detrimental to our upcoming campaign.
Sincerely,
Kimberly M Caldwell, MPAS, PA-C
MEAPA President
